what about mine?

i decided to start a thread for mine. while i'm looking for my others (which are, like, 2 of them) lets start with these that i found on a scrap piece of notebook paper i must've done when i was bored

Winter

Winter trees are dead
and the animals sleep to
waken in the spring

Spring

Spring comes alive and
the earth is born again to
shrink in summer heat

Summer

Summer sun beats down
warming the thawing earth for
fall to come around

Fall

The colors of Fall
are a dying earth to be
covered by winter

Yay... This is very good.

I was never very good at haikus. I write in my own distinct style that varies from poem to poem. Writing Shadows in the pattern I had planned for it was hard as I'll get at, so I doubt I could ever write a haiku.

I guess everyone has their own strong points...

im not so creative that i can think of my own thing, so set patterns and stuff it is. haiku are mean sometimes, though. i'm glad that you figured out what they were

I find haikus are rather easy to write but usually aren't very striking unless written as smaller stanzas in a larger poem. I do have one poem where each stanza is a haiku, but I prefer not to use them for the most part. Still, your haikus are really good.

I dont think there are any forms I dont like.

Also, rock on! great stuff.

I don't like rhyming poems where the rythm seems forced and off-balance. I also don't like nonsensical conglomeration of words poems, which I have seen a few of.

Ah...there was one by emily cummings (i think that's her name) that was about lizards or something, but I couldn't make sense of it. It was annoying...

that sucks. that it was annoying i mean.

Meh, whatever. There's a lot of other stuff by the same poet that I like, and there are a lot of other poems by other poets that I like. Out of all the poems in the world, it would be understandable that at least some of it I wouldn't like and/or wouldn't understand. Heh...even some of my own poetry I don't understand all that much.

to explain it, this was made as a journal entry stating "write your own poem to someone important, like that of the one from Langston Huges titled 'Mother to Son' (which i recommend checking out, since its a good one)"

Sister to Sister

You're smart and I know it,
because I'm smart, too.
I'd like to think I taught you
how to tie your shoe
or how to multiply and divide
add and subtract
but I probably didn't teach you anything
and here's the fact:
you taught me something
that I can clearly see:
you taught me the best thing of all,
you taught me how to love me.
You saw past the hair
and through it all
you saw through my glasses
and took down the wall.
Maybe because we look alike
like so many say,
but you saw through my faults
and took them away.
And now that I'm beautiful

aahhh sorry, I got a little teary eyed re-writing this

aaand another one from my journal

this time, during reading Grendel (a book about the monster from Beowulf) we learned about kennings, two-word pieces of information that add more "oomph" to a poetry or work. they are two words that hint at another one. This journal said to write 10 lines using kennings about a hero/battle. I did mine a little differently, which the teacher likes her students to do, anyway.
i like niki-chan's. Her's is a great example of what the teacher was really looking for.

anyway, here's mine:

In a special place there are adventures to be found:
the book-holder has an abundance of quests,
lined up row by row just waiting for a brave little book-worm
to crawl and devour each page like a tender leaf.
Adventures wrought by those word-weavers, artists of this time;
creating masterpieces, tapestries of paper bound together
to form epic stories.
In those musty smelling halls time flies by
and before you know it, the time-teller says that it is time to leave
and the adventure's over.

Book-holder= library
Book-worm= someone who reads a lot
Word-weavers= storytellers (authors/poets)
Time-teller= clock

Those two poems are so cool!
